This is a WWII Carcano M1891 Cavalry Carbine or Moschetto Modello 91 da Cavalleria. During WWII and after declaring war on the Allied forces, Italian arms manufactures started assembling existing stocks of the M1891 and issuing to Italian units. This leight weight carbine has an integral folding bayonet that was ideally suited for cavalry and ground units alike. The Germans also made use of them whilst allied with Italy and in October 1943, after the government of Italy declared war on its former Axis partners, Germany invaded and seized Italian weapons.
