Product Information

This is rare Siamese Mauser Model 1903 (Type 45/66) bolt action rifle. They were ordered in the early 1920s by the Siam government to arm its military with a standard long arm. The receivers were manufactured and marked at the Japanese Tokyo Arsenal utilsing the Mauser Gew98 & Arisaka type 38 designs. The wood work, barrel bands and bayonet lugs were added by the Siamese. The receiver bears the Siamese property crest and wording. Very few were made, around 40 to 50,000. They have a very distinctive dust cover and storage trap door in the stock. Equally rare is the bayonet & scabbard that accompanies this rifle.

During WWII, they saw active combat against both Axis and Allied forces. They were first used against the French in bids to reclaim long lost territory and later, against invading Japanese forces.

These rifles are seldom seen in the UK as most remain in the Thailand, formally Siam. This rifle would have most likely been a bring back by a member of our armed forces and bears one very old Birmingham proof house stamp. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
