Deactivated Old Spec Rare WWII Nazi Browning 1922 Pistol . Of all the Nazi occupation 1922 produced, this commercial variant is by far one of the rarest. From 1943 to 1944 only, pistols were produced with only German commercial proof N (Eagle over N). In Anthony Vanderlinden's book "The Belgian Browning Pistols" he states the following on this variant:
"These pistols were sold as commercial pistols. Although there were strict German guns-laws imposed on Europeans during the war, selected German citizens were allowed to have firearms. Also many companies were provided with commercial proofed 1922 pistols. These pistols were used by company security forces". He also states that these examples were fitted with black Bakelite grips with known serial numbered batches using a letter prefix after the serial number (a,b or c). This example being serial numbered 79,804b, which sites within the known serial ranges. This pistol has matching numbers to slide, frame and barrel, with correct Waffen code WaA140 on barrel( also used on late 1922s). Just visible on the rear of the frame is the other commercial proof stamp. They were also a popular private purchase by a Nazi officials and SS Officers.
When these pistols were ordered by companies they were marked on the slide below the extractor port with there name. It is quite probable that this pistol was marked in that fashion with the factory or company legend/name. There looks to have been evidence of wording which has then been removed.
A very rarely seen pistol of which very few were produced. Originally deactivated in 1989 to old specifications it was re certificated in 1993 and has been deactivated very sympathetically with a clear barrel and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
