Deactivated Old Spec Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) No1 MK3* .303 rifle. Dated 1953 it was manufactured at the Rifle Factory Ishapore (RFI). Very similar in design to the British made examples. However, this particular rifle is from one of the first batches produced the year India declared independence. Note the royal cypher has been replaced with the "ashoka" consisting of four tigers. It has matching numbers on receiver, barrel ,rear sight and more unusually the magazine. These rifles were used throughout the British empire during many post war conflicts. Comes fitted with the correct RFI bayonet, dated 1943, and an original canvas sling. Originally deactivated in 1980s to old specifications it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
