A Very Rare WWI Dated Navy and Royal Marines Marked Lee Metford Bolt Action Shotgun, Chambered in .410

This is a very rare First World War dated Royal Navy marked Lee Metford that was issued to the Royal Marines. It was manufactured by Sparkbrook in 1896 as a Lee Metford rifle. As part of the continued upgrades to the bolt action rifle it was later converted to a Charger Loading Lee Enfield MKI and marked CLLE 1 . Above this is the capital N to identify it as property of Royal Navy. The brass butt stock plate is stamped with the initials "RM 3 531" = 3rd Royal Marines Infantry Brigade, weapon number 531, who were assigned to the 63rd (Royal Naval) Division and served on the Western Front during WW1. The barrel is date stamped 17 (1917) with British military acceptance stamps. This Metford may well have also been used during the Boer War too!

You are unlikely see another with such comprehensive WWI British Naval provenance.

After being retired from active service many Metford rifles were sold off into private ownership. This example was re-chambered in .410 and is currently an unrestricted bolt action shotgun available on an FAC. It can restricted and held on a shotgun license. Please ask for more details.
