Product Information

A lovely original Obsolete Calibre Swiss Vetterli Rifle, M81 (model of 1881), chambered in 10.4x38 Rimfire. Manufactured by Eidgenössische Waffenfabrik, Bern . These rifles are superbly made and were hugely powerful. At the time the design represented a significant advance in European military technology. Its firepower significantly outstripped that of any rifle in regular military service of the day. The Vetterli striker has a forked firing pin which passes through two firing pins holes in the bolt face for a double strike on the rimfire cartridge, improving the likelihood of ignition. A very clever design. This model was only in production from 1882 to 1889 with only 25,300 made over this production period, on average just over 3,160 are year! On the top of the stock are the Swiss regiment markings (D4 01). This lovely rifle with matching numbers can be owned live without any form of license. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. The bore in super condition.
