Product Information

An extremely rare 1899 dated Mauser manufactured Gew98. This is one of only very few produced that year. The very low serial 2070a means this rifle is only number 12,070th of 1899. The Gew98 was officially adopted by Germany in 1898 replacing the Gew88. The disc plate is regimentally marked and reads '4.G.R.8.5.' believed to be an abbreviation for 4th Grenadier Regiment 8th Company, rifle number 5, who fort in both world wars.  All numbers match with exception of the bolt release catch. The finish is original as is the wood work. If that wasn't enough the rifle has later been issued to the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) and stamped with their crest. The UVF formed in 1913 and are known to have smuggled such weapons like this one into Ireland during this period. Many UVF members signed up for service during WW1 and fort along side British forces. Its quite plausible this rifle may have been a bring back? This rifle having been sourced by us from Northern Ireland. An extremely rare rifle with lots of history and of which very few now exist. Still live it can be owned live on a section 1 firearms license with the correct slot for 7.92mm.
