Product Information

Rare First World War issued Gew 88(S). (Gewehr modell 1888) or “Komissiongewehr” (Commission rifle). Manufactured by Spandau, dated 1891 with German Imperial markings and two sets of regiment markings. It was developed by a group of officers from GewehrPrufungsKomission (GPK, or Rifle testing commission of German army). This rifle is modified and adapted for the 7,9mm S-patrone ammunition, and is appropriately stamped with letter “S” . Its not unusual to find these rifle with regimental markings but IS very unusual to find two sets. We believe this to be an accurate break-down of the markings. The set that are crossed out look to be 21.R.R.11.134 = weapon no 134, 11th company, 8th Reserve Regiment. The second set read 118.R.R.3.22= weapon no 118, 22nd Reserve Regiment, 3rd company. A very interesting and well traveled rifle. Both of these regiments were involved and saw action during WWI hostilities. The G88 was eventually replaced by the Gew98, but remained in service until the end of the First World War. They were also issued during WWII. This example is live and requires and FAC with the correct variation to own. Can be deactivated to order with a working action.
