Product Information

This is a rare US Civil War, French manufactured rifled percussion carbine, circa 1822. This is chambered in a massive .69 calibre, and has a seven grooved rifle barrel. Originally a long rifle the barrel has been deliberately shortened converting it into a carbine. This is a typical American Civil War conversion which was done using readily available European weaponry which was then modified by US armorers. The design and construction are indicative of French long arms of the period, as is the regulation brass furniture. The butt-plate tang is marked VI.G.18. (Virginia Infantry- Union Army), the side plate has cancelled regiment marks. It also bears the characteristic roman numeral mating assembly marks used by armorers whilst building these rifles. The original proof stamps are on the left side of the barrel. This carbine would have most likely been used by a mounted soldier. The lack of foresight blade and sight positioning mid-way down the barrel would support this, as it would make it easier to holster on horse back. This historic carbine with a full working action, is chambered in an obsolete calibre, therefore can be owned live without any form of license.
