Product Information

This is a very rare first year of production, Second World War, German G33/40 carbine. This is one of the best examples we have seen with beautiful matched wood work. It is correctly marked with Waffenamt acceptance stamp Eagle over WaA63 and fitted with its original Walnut wood work. All numbers are matched except the bolt. The G33/40 was only in production for three years during the war, 1940 to 1942, and with 945 coded carbines only made in 1940. First adopted in 1940 by the German Army it was specifically designed for and issued to German Mountain infantry troops (Gebirgsjager or Gebirgstruppen), as a shorter and lighter variant of the standard K98. Although chambering for the same 7.92mm round as the K98 it is visually very different having a metal plate on the left rear side of the butt stock. This was to protect the wood from damage in the field when being used as an Alpenstock and to prevent damage from snow shoes. It is also much shorter and lighter with different wood work, rear sight and barrel bands. The bolt was lightened and has a drop down lever. Another unusual and correct feature is the lack of numbered parts. Most parts were not numbered. Very few were produced in 1940 with an estimated total of only 40,000. This carbine would have almost certainly been involved during the German's invasion and occupation of Norway.

Whilst under Norwegian ownership it was issued to their police force and marked "Politi" (police) weapon number 1583. This incredible example has just been imported by us and is brand new to the UK market having been under Norwegian ownership for the past 72 years. It is still live and in super original condition throughout with a great bore that has very strong rifling. An FAC with the correct variation is required to purchase this historic carbine. It comes fitted with an original wartime leather sling and sight hood cover.

Of considerable interest; Very few G33/40s were originally issued to the Norwegian police, and due to legislation changes the Norwegian Government were duty bound to destroyed any remaining stocks of them as part of its non proliferation agreement, and those that do survive have remained in Norway.
