WWII Lithgow SMLE No1 MKIII* .303 rifle, dated 1943. A lovely example with great wood work. The bore is in very good condition. Although dated 1943 on the receiver the stock markings would suggest it would have been issued in early 1944. Although Australian forces fort against Nazi Germany, with some units being deployed in Europe, the vast majority of its forces fort against the Japanese, playing a key role in the Pacific War with US forces. Lithgow built very few SMLEs during WWII making these fairly scarce rifles. This lovely rifle is in proof and ready to shoot.
