Product Information

A genuine First World War German M17 Helmet with its original liner. Marked inside the rim with the size (Si. 66) and what looks to be B1 837 at the very top . A good indication of its date can be done by noting the colour of the liner. In 1917 the tanning solution was changed from a vegetable based chemical which turns the leather liner a honey brown hue, to a chromium based tanning solution which turns the leather white. Germany first introduced steel helmets in 1916 replacing the leather Pickelhabe's which were proving to be ineffective against protecting soldiers from shrapnel and snipers.
