Product Information

This is an extremely rare late Second World War German 10.5cm heavy gun shell. The steel shell case has a very unusual and distinctive spiral construction. The base is dated 1944 with the correct German ordnance code "s10K18" that translates to; Heavy 10cm Cannon No18. We believe that the unusual construction of this shell was only used on a very small number of shells during the final stages of the war. Brass being in high demand and more expensive than steel. Another feature is the type of ammunition that this shell fired. It is referred to as semi-fixed; that is, the cartridge case is a loose fit over the projectile so that the propellant may be accessible for adjustment. This would explain why the overall size of the projectile hole measures 10.5cms. Types of projectiles used included high explosive (HE) and high-explosive antitank (HEAT). This is confirmed by the German code for semi fixed which is 6349 and is stamped on this shell. An even more intriguing feature is the four holes on the base. These holes are where it was riveted together to prevent the case from detaching/separating from the cartridge on extraction. The rivets added strength. We do have two original and correct sized warheads/projectiles that will fit this shell. Please see product codes 19324 and 1RA74.
