An early WWII - Battle of Britain era 40mm (40 x 311R) British Bofors gun round. These rounds were used as anti aircraft and later on in Europe on mobile ground units. The Bofors was used on land and at sea on naval vessels. The brass case was made by Royal Laboratories in 1939 and fuse by BSA in April 1940 just a few months before the Battle of Britain began!
