A great condition, highly polished Boer War period Metford, Magazine Lee Enfield or Long Lee Bayonet with scabbard. This example has been issued many times. Every time a bayonet was reissued to a unit the inspectors at the armoury would check it, date it and then apply their individual viewer mark. This example bears six sets of date stamps. The first date of issue was 12'1891 (December 1891) then 1894,1895, 1898, ,1900 & 1901. The makers mark has almost been completely covered by the various stamps. It looks to be Wilkinson, London. Another unusual feature is the lack of clearance hole in the grip or pommel. The leather scabbard is in great condition and is broad arrow stamped.
