Product Information

This is an original pre WWII Dutch M23/27 or M28 Dutch military steel helmet with chin strap and head liner. The Dutch had a very small army in the 1920's and thus only produced very small numbers of these helmets. Estimates are that around 105,000 of all variants were made. The M23 designation indicates the design date of 1923, and the "27" signifies the date of adopted, 1927. They are sometimes also referred to as the M28 "Nieuw Model" . This helmet still has its period paint which was a Flat Dark Olive and has the Rampant Lion badge at the front. The overall condition is still very good with all straps and fasteners in good working order. These helmets are scarce. Once occupied, the Germans re-purposed captured field gear. Helmets were often melted down or reworked.

During WWII The Netherlands was under Nazi control and was the scene of one of the most famous battles of WWII, the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944 involving the British
1st Airborne Division and the German 9th and 10th SS Panzer Divisions.
