Product Information

This is a very rare survivor from HMS Cairo. HMS Cairo was C - Class light cruiser of the Royal Navy, launched on 19th November 1918 and commissioned on 24th September 1919. She saw extensive military action during WWII in Norway, Gibraltar and Malta before finally being torpedoed and sinking in August 1942 whilst on convoy escort north of Bizerta,Tunisia. This piece of engineers equipment is a three quarter inch die. How it has survived remains a mystery but one plausible explanation would be the refit of Cairo in 1939. It could have been taken off the ship as a souvenir? The die measures 5cm (2 inches) in diameter and 2.2cm in width and is still in perfect work order. Possible the only surviving one of its type in the world!
