First World War British No5 Mills bomb. First introduced into service with the British army in 1915 as the standard hand grenade. They were used throughout WWI and WWII. This example looks to has have suffered an impact to the top of the casing where the pin and catch are housed. Just visible in the centre of the brass base cap is the broad arrow acceptance marked.
