A First World War dated 40 x 158R British cannon round. Manufactured by VSM - Vickers, Sons & Maxim, the brass shell is marked 2 PDR with a 1915 dated fuse. The projectile is dated 1917 and also by VSM. They were fired from the Vickers auto cannon during both world wars. In 1915 the Vickers 2 pdr gun was primarily used on most of the Royal Navy fleet as an anti aircraft gun. WWII saw them back in service again with smaller vessels and in ground mounted form.
