This is a first year of manufacture WWI German Egg Grenade - Mle.1917 fitted with fuse and pull cord. First introduced early in 1917 as a lightweight more portable longer range alternative to the Kugel and Stick grenades. The base is maker marked "R  F Cb" and dated 17 =1917.
