This is a WWI British manufactured No23 Mills grenade. The body is marked with a shield symbol, this identifies that it was made by C.A. Vandervell, Acton Vale, London. The brass base plug is maker marked Elmbank, Glasgow, No23 MKI and is dated 7/16 = July 1916.
