This is a First World War dated No5 MKI Mills fragmentation hand grenade . The brass base plug is dated February 1916 (2/16), the makers initials C = Castings Ltd, Selbourne Street, Walsal.  These grenades are most commonly referred to as a Mills Bomb. A rare early example it is complete with all internal parts including spring and plungers assemble.
