This is a Long Lee/Metford Rifle Pattern 1888 Bayonet & Scabbard dated September 1892 (9'92), War Department and broad arrow marked. It was manufactured by Wilkinson, London and is an early pattern design with brass riveted handle and a hole drilled through above the first brass rivet. Stamped on the pommel with the initials 4. N.L. , 4th Battalion, The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, weapon number 458. This battalion fort at Festubert, Fance during WWI where they suffered huge loses, and also fort during the Battle of the Somme.
