Product Information

This is a rare 1907 Pattern Hook Quillon SMLE rifle bayonet with scabbard. Originally manufactured in January 1912 (1'12) it would have left the Enfield factory with its distinctive "hooked quillon" cross guard. This design feature was only in production for a few years. The hooked quillon bayonet was intended to allow the soldiers using it to catch an opponent’s bayonet and disarm him. The idea was soon dropped in the face of the coming first world war and to speed up production the hooks were ordered to be ground off all issue bayonets. On this example you can clearly see where the distinctive hook was and the cut or grinding marks made when it was removed. Still present on the blade are all the original markings. The pommel has the remnants of the regiment it was originally issued to and the sold out of service stamps (two broad arrows facing each other).
