This is a rare WWI dated SMLE MKI / Martini Henry leather holster. It was made by Simmons and is dated 1915. They were first used on Martini's and later on early SMLEs during WWI before being replaced by webbing slings. Most have long since perished because the leather didn't weather well during the horrendous condition of trench warfare. These slings were also fitted to the Metford and Long Lee rifles and carbines. The sling is complete with leather locket and boot lace cord.
