This is rare WWII German Patronenkasten 36. It was used in conjunction with vehicle mounted MG34 & MG42 machine guns. It can hold 150 belted rounds of 7.92mm ammunition. This example has been painted in desert camouflage and would have been used by the Nazi Afrika Korps.
