Product Information

A Second World War German Glass anti personnel mine. The Glasmine 43 was an anti-personnel landmine mine made completely from glass to be undetectable by regular minesweepers, and which also saved metal for other military use. Early versions used a mechanical igniter while later versions used a chemical igniter.  It had a 200g charge that shattered the case sending glass shrapnel in all directions.  These glass shards were particularly nasty as they were not visible on X-Rays resulting in infection and other complications. This example has a 1944 dated igniter and pressure plate. The two sticks holding the glass top would give way under pressure touching the igniter and detonating the mine.
