Product Information

This is a rare early Second World War Nazi Military GG 400 portable Generator by Auto Union, manufactured by DKW and Horch automobiles who evolved into the present day Audi. They were the main competitor to Mercedes Benz in Grand Prix racing prior to WWII, producing high quality and powerful racing cars. This rare working example was built in 1939, to a design originally intended for use by German paratroopers (Fallschrimjager) . The engine is a 2 stroke with flat top piston, using a Schnerule porting design. It is superbly engineered, and even has an electric start!  Incredible it still has its original wartime paintwork, and starts and runs as it should. It is dated 1939 with Nazi acceptance stamps. During the early stages of WWII these portable generators were in use with the German Luftwaffe. Issued to German Fallschrimjager units, they were used during the Blitzkrieg in Europe. A key part of the Germans tactics was communication. The GG 400 could be used for powering many essential pieces of equipment including telephones. Later in the war the mighty Tiger tank carried four as backup units.

Complete, early wartime working examples rarely come to market. This is a real find!
