Product Information

This is a very rare Auto Ordnance, Thompson M1921 First Model L Drum Magazine for the M1921 and M1928 Thompson sub-machine guns. Both body and front plate are matching numbers 226. Only found on early examples is the Nickel plated rotor and New York address and patent fonts.

We have been reliable informed by a leading Irish collector, who has several of these magazines in his private collection, confirming that the very low serial number identifies this drum as an ex IRA contract from 1921. The IRA received the first batches of Thompson 1921's with drum magazines. The very first 1000 1921's that were shipped started at serial number 46 and highest 1117. Accompanying these guns were batches of early low serial numbered magazines.

The Colt Patent Firearms Company of Hartford Connecticut was contracted by Auto-Ordnance to manufacture the first 15,000 Thompson sub-machine guns from April 1921 to May 1922. Contract was signed on 18th August 1920.  Shipments then started being smuggled into Ireland.
