Boer War & WWI Era 1897 Pattern British Officers Sword with brown leather scabbard. An early example. The blade is dated 8'98 (August 1898) with Wilkinson inspectors marks. The second set of markings are '02 (1902) with the Enfield Royal Small Arms Factory (R.S.A.F.)  inspectors stamps. The guard has the cypher VR Victorian Regina (Queen Victoria) who reigned 1837-1901. On the reverse is the British Government broad arrow or crows foot acceptance stamp with X signifying Bending mark, proof of blade. The grips are shark skin with wire bindings. The blade is in 32 and a half inches ( 82.5cm) and in good condition with no chips and not been re sharpened. The leather scabbard is overall in good original condition with wear to some parts of the leather and where you'd expect when mounted in its frog. The leather frog securing tang is marked with the initials BM/AAEM. They were used by British officers during the Boer and First world wars.
