This is a late, First World War German Maxim MG08 machine gun ammunition box. Still in remarkable condition considering its age. They were produced towards the end of the war replacing the wooden ones that were prone to rotting in the horrendous conditions or were used for fire wood. Ideal for displaying with an MG08. It is in good working order and complete with the leather handle sleeves. Remnants of the original paint are still visible in places.
