These belts were introduced by the US Army during WWI for use with the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) and were designed to be worn by the BAR Gunner. It has a metal butt receptor to hold the rifle in position when fired from the hip. This example is maker marked and dated R.H.Long 6 .18 (May 1918). The same belts were issued during WW2.
