Product Information

This is a US made Colt model 1851 Navy percussion revolver, chambered in .36 that is fitted with rare iron back strap and trigger guard. All visible numbers are matching. The serial number 150362 dates to 1863 production, mid US Civil War (1861 to 1865). During the US Civil War, the Navy model was very popular with both Confederate and Union forces. This example is somewhat unusual as the barrel has been shortened, which looks to be a very old modification. During this period guns were sometimes deliberately cut down if damaged, or to make them easier to conceal. This old modifications looks to have been carried by an armourer with the original brass foresight reinstalled covering the first part of the Colts address. Another very unusual feature is the proof markings on the underside of the barrel. As is to be expected from a 154 years old revolver, it has seen plenty of action, the original finish has worn off and the action has wear in it. It does cock and dry fire and can be fully stripped. Chambered in an antique obsolete calibre it can owned live without any license.
