Product Information

A very interesting and unusual percussion musket, Circa mid 1800s. The lock is stamped with the British "Tower" maker mark but is also marked "EIFƧBI". Just above this is a faint date stamp of which a number 8 is most visible. On the back of the lock it is clearly marked with matching parts with British military broad arrow stamps followed by the number 8 and letter r or p. We are reliable informed that this is an East India Company marking often used on their "trade" muskets. The unusual spelling on the lock "EIFƧBI" and backwards S was most likely a result of the maker not being particularly well read in English. The lock is from a British military service musket and may have been taken from a gun that was damaged.

It is a huge gun measuring 159.5cm (just over 62.5inches) in length with a barrel of 118.4cm (about 46. 3/4 inches). The bore is around .760 the same as the British military Brown Bess muskets of the same period. The storage compartment is also another very unusual design feature and would appear to be unique to this musket. There is also evidence of gold plating on the rear of action. Presumably it was used for shooting large game by an important or very wealth man! It is a very impressive musket and still in remarkable good condition. It is quite possibly a one-off. The action is still crisp and tight with a its full length ram rod.

This musket is of an obsolete calibre and can therefore be owned without any form of license.
