Product Information

A rare British manufactured Chassepot Fusil modèle 1866 rifle. This rifles wood work is marked with the makers name Herbert and the barrel and bolt carry only British proof markings. It has all matching numbers including the bolt and wood work. As well as being produced by the various French state-owned companies, the Chassepot was also made in limited numbers under contract in England. British made example are much rarer due to the smaller numbers produced. The quality and finish is often far better too.

The Chassepot was used by French forces during the Franco-Prussian and First World War. It proved to be a very accurate and reliable rifle with French partisans using them against the Nazis during the Second World War.

This example is chambered in 11mm, obsolete calibre and has a full working action. It can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. The gun is not deactivated in any way but is missing its firing pin. This could be reinstated. The original cleaning rod is also included.
