Product Information

This is a superb BSA manufactured two band Snider MKII** short rifle. Dated 1878, this example has lots unit and British military war department markings. The wood work has a beautiful "Tiger stripe" grain and what looks to be someones name. Both sides of the stock are regimentally marked. The most clear reads "8.74.B over 2. C T". The abbreviation 2.CT could be for the 2nd Battalion Connaught Rangers? The lock has the Victorian Crown with the initials EIG below, meaning "East India Government". This rifle was contracted for the EIG to help protect and govern their considerable assets. During this period India and its wealth were of great financial and political importance to the British Empire. Protecting this was of the greatest importance.

This rare rifle is chambered in an obsolete calibre (.577) and can therefore be owned live without any form of license. The bore is in very good order with strong rifling throughout. It can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. The action is still tight and crisp.

It is not deactivated in any way and is being sold as a collectors piece only.
