Product Information

A lovely condition Enfield three band percussion musket, circa 1860s. It has the correct period VR - Victoria Regina proofs and British WD - War Department stamps. It bears several sets of regiment markings having been issued at least twice. As weapons technology improved the British military would arm its colonial forces of the empire with older weapons, and issuing the latest ones to British forces only. On this gun the original regimental stamps have been struck out; 1st Regiment, weapon number 303. The Enfield roundal has a 1 below it, this denotes that it was a 'first class' weapon and would have only been issued to a British soldier. The next set of regiment markings look to be D N 2, this could possible be for an Irish region "Down" who used these initials. During its time with colonial forces it may well have been under the ownership of the East India Company, many of these Enfield's were used by them to defend and police during this period. Its certainly a well traveled musket with lots of history and markings.

Chambered in an obsolete calibre it can be owned live without any form of license. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
