Product Information

A Napoleonic war period German manufactured French model AN XIII Flintlock pistol by "Pistor". Circa 1810-1814. Chambered in .69, the barrel has been shortened from 8 to 5.5 inches. The lock is marked with the name "Pistor" of Schmalkalden who were a well known German gun maker of this period producing military weapons. During this period this region of Germany was under the control of Napoleon. The left side of the barrel is stamped with the initial "W1"  that is believed to be an abbreviation for 1st Line Infantry Regt (Westphalian, Napoleonic Infantry). The lock, brass trigger guard and barrel are correctly marked with a P proof stamp. The wood work is regulation Walnut with three quarter length stock with rounded brass "skull-crusher" butt-cap .

The Napoleonic wars were fought on many different types of terrain throughout Europe, this may give some clue as to why this particular pistol was shortened. They were issued to infantry, cavalry and naval units. The barrel may have been shortened to make it easier to conceal or holster. It would appear to be the only one of its type. Germanic manufactured model AN XIII Flintlock pistols are very scarce and are seldom seen.

As is to be expected from a pistol of this age there is some wear in the action. It can be cocked and dry fired although the second sear has worn and the trigger return string has lost tension.
