Product Information

This is a rare Martini Henry Cavalry carbine IC1 - Interchangeable Carbine MKI, dated 1892 manufactured by Henry Rifled Barrel Co . This example is one of the very first carbines they made that year and is serial number 54. This number appears on both receiver and barrel. The original stock is marked  "VIC GOV" - Victoria Government, Australia who received this carbine. Incredible it still retains its original wood work and scarce cleaning rod. The leather rear sight cover looks like it was made in the field and shows great age. This a rare carbine of which few were ever made and even fewer now exist.

The Martini Henry Society Website states the following information supporting this particular carbine and its origins;

'Between the years 1878 and 1889 the RSAF Enfield made 130,000 IC1 carbines, but with the adoption of the .303” calibre in the regular army, production ceased, with most of the component parts being utilized in the conversion to .303 Martini Metford and Martini Enfield carbines. IC1 Carbines emanating from the Birmingham Small Arms factory have never been seen by the author, their factory returns report that they had made over 1600 pieces in the 1890’s, however, it is believed that these were made under contract by the Henry Rifled Barrel company, with parts supplied from Enfield'.

Chambered in its original obsolete calibre (.577/450)  it can be owned live without any form of license. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.

It is not deactivated in any way and is being sold as a collectors piece only.
