Product Information

This is a rare first year of production, pre Zulu War dated, British military issued Martini Henry MKI, Cavalry Carbine. Dated 1877, it was manufactured by RSAF Enfield. Only Enfield made this model, the exact number of cavalry carbines they produced in 1877 is unclear but experts have estimated it to be very few. Overall production of this model was also very low. This example was completed in February 1878 (2/78). The barrel matches the receivers serial number A8330. The name E.Price appears on the barrel and metal end cap, presumable the Enfield inspector. On the receiver below the date stamp are the initials I.C.1 - Interchangeable Carbine MKI. The stock markings show it was issued several times. Just visible in the wood work are the original unit markings, the initials "Y LEC 344" = Leicestershire Yeomanry, number 344. Below this is the Enfield roundal with a number 1 underneath, meaning it was first class carbine (issued as a frontline weapon). On the left hand side on the stock are more unit markings "D 4I " = Dragoons 41th regiment? , that have been struck out.

Chambered in its original and now obsolete calibre .577/450, it can be owned live without any form of license. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. The bore is in very good condition.

This gun is being sold as a collectors piece only. The action is still tight and crisp when dry fired.
