Product Information

This is a very rare Colt 1851 revolver with the Richards-Mason Conversion, chambered in .38 Rimfire. Only around 3,800 were made. Serial numbers ran from 1 to around 3800, this being only number 52. The conversion was done in the 1870s as a way of utilizing existing guns to chamber the then new metallic cartridge. The Richards-Mason conversion enable the user to load and extract cartridges. The finish and grips are original, it has the correct Colt address, patent and calibre markings and the barrel is correct at 7 1/2 inches and octagonal. Note the frame still has the hole below the barrel where the loading rod would have fitted when it was original manufactured for a percussion revolver, and the number 29 on the loading gate. This to is correct, Colt used pre numbered parts when converting these pistols. Rarely seen in the UK a genuine Colt.

Chambered in .38 Rimfire (obsolete calibre) this revolver can be owned in its live form without any form of license. It has a full working action.

It is being sold as a collectors piece only.
