Durings WWII Lewisham Engineering was based at 9 & 11 Malyons Road, Ladywell, London, and was the smallest maker of the No. 4 Mk. II*, completing just 84,566 from 1943–1945. The company was established on the bombed out site of the South East London Indoor Sports Club that was destroyed in the blitz bombings of 1940–41, solely to make bayonets. Below the name is the correct dispersal code S376. The scabbard is wartime dated with dispersal code. S.286 = Vanden Plas (Eng) 1923 Ltd. Although very faint the wartime canvas frog is maker marked and looks to be dated 1945.
