This is a WWII German K98 manufactured by Steyr under the secret code "bnz" in 1942. It is correctly stamped with Waffenamt “623” and “77” proofs and with nearly all of its original matched parts, including the bolt assembly and upper and lower woodwork. This one is an early example from this years production with a serial number of 2582a that would indicate it be around number 12,500th from that year. The Austrian firm Steyr was of huge importance in terms of weapons production for Nazi Germany. As well as the K98 they were responsible for manufacturing the Radom pistol, MP40, MG42, tank chassis, trucks, and tiger tank turrets. This K98 was stationed in Norway during the war and was captured by the Nord's after Nazi Germany surrendered in 1945. It was then put back into service with the Norwegian armed forces. The hand written penciled numbers in the woodwork are those of the Norwegian armourers. Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired. Comes with EU/UK deactivation certificate.
