This is a P-1837 Brunswick percussion rifle, chambered in .704. The Brunswick was one of several designs submitted to replace the Baker flintlock rifle which was the current British military long arm. Unlike the Baker rifle, the Brunswick used a special round ball with raised ribs that fit into two spiraling grooves in the barrel. This design was a big improvement from the flintlock Baker making it a more accurate rifle. It remained in service with British forces for some 50 years. This is the early type example bears Nepalese markings and is one only around 12,000 manufactured between 1840 to 1860. Brunswick's were used during the US Civil War. Chambered in an antique obsolete calibre this historic rifle can be owned live without any form of license. It has a full working action and can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
