Deactivated Boer War & WW1 Webley MK4 .455 revolver Issued to the Royal Horse Guard

This is an incredibly well stamped British military issued Webley MK4 .455 revolver, dated June 1900. This model is most commonly referred to as the "Boer War Model" where it saw wide spread use predominantly by Briitsh officers during the Second Boer War in South Africa from 1899 to 1902. The MK4 was first introduced into service in 1899 with just 36,756 delivered to the War Department between 1899 to 1904. The earliest known serial number is 77,503, this revolver is number 83,169 meaning it is around gun number 5,666th. We dont think you'll ever seen another with such a comprehensive set of inspection and upgrade markings. The date stamps range from 1901, 02, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09 , 10 and 1911. The back strap markings reveal that this revolver was issued in June 1900 (6 over 1900) and that it was issued to the Royal Horse Guard (R.H.G.) often referred to as “The Blues”, who saw extensive service during the Boer War and WW1. The initials C45 are most likely to represent Command or company weapon number 45.
