Product Information

This is a D-Day era WWII Bren Gun MKII dated 1944. Manufactured by Monotype Corporation, (makers code M67). Monotype was first set up in 1942 using subcontractors to help boost production of the MKII Bren. Companies such as The Daimler Motor Company were involved in the manufacturing of this gun. This example has all visible matching numbers. Monotype only produced around 83,438 Bren's during WWII, so are far less common than Enfield or Inglis examples. This particular example is from the very last batch they ever made. Serial numbers ran from RB1 to RB10000 before production ceased in 1945.

A very unusual feature on this particular Bren is the addition of "/I" in the MK2 designation and FTR 48 stampings. This would indicate that this Bren returned after the war and in 1948 require reworking or "Factory Through Repair" before then being re-designated as a MK2/I. Also the addition of Egyptian markings in several places on the weapon means that it was put into service with Egyptian armed forces post WWII. Britain supplied the Egyptian army with British weapon both during and after the war. In May of 1948 the ongoing civil war in this region transformed into an inter-state conflict between Israel and the Arab states. Israel had declared independence and was invaded by Egyptian,Jordanian, Syrian and Iraqi forces.  The invading forces took control of the Arab areas and immediately attacked Israeli forces and several Jewish settlements.

A rare opportunity to own a real piece of British WWII history that was also used in the middle east. Not to be missed.

Deactivated to current specifications with moving slide and trigger.
