Product Information

This is an extremely rare First World War Colt manufactured M1915 Vickers machine gun that was converted for aircraft use. Colt were first contracted to make the M1915 Vickers in the early part of WW1, producing 12,125 for ground use. From this figure 2,888 were converted to aircraft guns and 7,653 were issued to the American Expeditionary Forces that were used in France in 1917. This gun is one of those 2,888 that were converted for aircraft use. During WWII this gun was sent by the US to Great Britain under the Lend-Lease agreement. Just under 7,000 Colt M1915 Vickers, plus ammunition were delivered. Upon its arrival in the UK this Vickers was inspected at the Enfield factory where it was dated stamped "40" = 1940 and broad arrow stamped. Being chambered for the US .3006 cartridge, these guns were prominently issued to the Home Guard. The unique trigger / hand grip configuration and rear sight assembly were also added.

This Vickers is covered in a plethora of US & UK numbers and markings. The matching bolt serial numbers and US production numbers would indicate 1918 as the year of production. We believe the barrel jacket may have been removed due to battle damage or as part of its Home Guard application. The gun would still function normally without the cooling jacket providing it was preventing from overheating.

This is a fantastic opportunity to own a very rare Vickers variant that was used in the air and on the ground during both world wars.
