Product Information

A very rare Lee-Metford rifle. As part of the continued upgrades to the Magazine Lee-Metford MKI*, the MKII, its replaced was approved in 1892 but did not get final approval until April 1893. This example is dated 1892 and is believed to be one of the trials rifles used during these changes. Around 100 rifles would be selected for trials, normally these rifles were numbered from 1 to 100 and were first rifles off the production line. The serial number of this MKII is 77. The rifles pre approval date (1892) also supports this. The BSA script is also in a very early font. The Lee-Metford was only in production for a short period before the MLE which eventually became the SMLE replaced it.  It retains many original features including its early bolt, note it has no safety, only seen on this variant. Also in tact is the bolt cover, magazine cut off and magazine link chain, plus the front and rear volley sights. It has an original leather sling and scarce cleaning rod. The stock is regimentally marked 1 over 1900 ; First Regiment, of the year 1900.

Any Metford rifle is rare but to find such an early production example like this one is a very rare find indeed. A real collectors piece.

Deactivated with a working action it can be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
