This is a rare 1905 dated SMLE MKI* .303 Rifle. The SMLE was first introduced in 1903. From 1903 to 1906 BSA only produced 150,000 MKI & MKI* SMLE's. From this total even fewer were allocated to the Royal Navy. The capital N on the under side of the stock was only used on Navy issued equipment. This stunning rifle still has the correct front and rear volley sights and correct wood work with "bone' sights, sight guard wings and early nose cap. The early bolt assembly has the charger guide for stripper clip loading and the receiver has the magazine cut-off plate. It is fitted with the correct 1903 Pattern bayonet & scabbard that it is also Navy marked. A very rare and desirable set. Deactivated with a working action it cane be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
