This is beautifully hand crafted US JP Clabrough & Brothers 12 hammer shotgun. John Plumb Clabrough was US born and had trained as a gunsmith with his father. In 1860 he found work in St. Louis in the shop of the legendary Samuel Hawken. Soon after he set up his own company "JP Clabrough & Bro's" this business flourished during the US Civil War, and in 1863 J.P. Clabrough was listed in San Francisco’s business directory. He produced a wide range of bespoke high end hand made shotguns and establish an outlet in Birmingham, UK. This example has Birmingham proofs and would have been sold to a Gentleman or person of some considerable wealth. The shotgun has twin Damascus barrels, Walnut stock and foregrip with hand engraved lock, action, trigger guard and hammers. Deactivated with a working action it cane be cocked, stripped and dry fired.
